P.L. Redistricting Data From the Year Census: The View From the States Report of the Census Public Law Program Evaluation Conferences Chapter l. Background In a country as sprawling and diverse as ours, the year census serves many purposes. Community groups use the numbers to plan services for the elderly and homeless.   The Redistricting application is complete with preprocessed census data—, TIGER, Public Law (P.L.) 94‐, and census data (when available). Esri offers an optional data service package to support clients with integration of custom data .

Public Law , enacted in , directs the Census Bureau to make special preparations to provide redistricting data needed by the 50 states. Contains population counts for the total population and for the population 18 years and over. • Title 13 amended by P.L. requires the redistricting tabulation data be given to the states by April 1st of the following year after a decennial census is taken • Population is counted where person is living on this day, including students, inmates, military, undocumented immigrants, etc. • Census data will be released by April 1.

Data Set: Census Redistricting Data (Public Law ) Summary File NOTE: Data not adjusted based on the Accuracy and Coverage Evaluation. Total: Population of one race: White alone Black or African American alone American Indian and Alaska Native alone Asian alone Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander alone Some other race alone. The Census redistricting program provides states the opportunity to delineate voting and state legislative districts and to suggest census block boundaries for use in the decennial census redistricting data tabulations (Public Law data). Census P.L. Program This section is mainly about Census P.L. data.

Census Bureau provides data for the Federal, state and local governments as well as voting, redistricting, apportionment and congressional affairs. Public Lawenacted by Congress in Decemberrequires the Census Bureau to provide the states with the small area census data necessary for legislative redistricting.

The law also requires that the Census Bureau deliver this data no later than one year from Census day. It specifies that within one year following the Census Day (i.e., for Census by April 1, ), the Census Bureau must send to the govenor and legislature in each state the data they need to redraw districts for the United States Congress and state legislatures.

REDISTRICTING DATA. Each redistricting dataset merges the electoral data the SWDB collected and processed over the preceding decade with the most current census data (PL). The result is a census block level dataset that allows for longitudinal analysis of electoral data over time on the same unit of analysis.

Redistricting Data prior to April 1st,one year from census day.
