Eighteenth-Century Studies is committed to publishing the best of current writing on all aspects of eighteenth-century culture. The journal publishes different modes of analysis and disciplinary discourses that explore how recent historiographical, critical, and theoretical ideas have engaged scholars concerned with the eighteenth century.

A new monograph series presenting the best current multidisciplinary research on the global eighteenth century.

Published by Boydell and Brewer in association with the British Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies. The eighteenth century was an age in which today’s disciplinary and topographical borders had not yet been quite fixed. Eighteenth-Century Book Reviews Online provides reviews of books published on all aspects of the “long” eighteenth century, both in the United States and abroad.

Reviews are commissioned by EBRO editors Clorinda Donato and Norbert Schürer at California State University, Long Beach, where the site is housed. The editors invite contributions on all aspects of the eighteenth century.

Essays employing interdisciplinary perspectives or addressing contemporary theoretical and cultural concerns relating to the eighteenth century are especially encouraged. Articles which are selected for publication are those which make a significant and original contribution to their field.

Addressing the diverse ways in which eighteenth-century contemporaries of different nations and cultures created visual, verbal, and material representations in various media. Focused on conventions of technology, labor, and tolerance on the one hand, and on artistic intentionality on the other hand, these essays also address the implications.

Volume 42 explores material culture, the visual arts, literature, opera, and the stage during the long eighteenth century in France, Britain, the Americas, and China. These essays examine encounters between Europe and the Americas, the Orient and the Occident, as well as the challenges of translation.
